Marlene E. Stenberg

Marlene E. Stenberg (nee Dietrich), age 76, of Janesville, died on June 3, 2011 at the Edgerton Hospital, Edgerton, WI. Marlene was born on December 31, 1934, in Janesville Township, and was a life-long resident of the Janesville area. She was the daughter of George A. and Helen M. Kersten Dietrich. Marlene graduated from Janesville High School, Janesville, WI in 1952. She married Lamont Krebs on Nov. 18, 1961. She later married Robert (Bob) Stenberg on April 2, 1975.


Marlene was an avid bowler, and won numerous bowling awards during her career. She was secretary for the Janesville Ladies Bowling Association for many years and was inducted into the Wisconsin Bowling Hall of Fame in 2001. She also was an outstanding cook and owned the “Town Tap” in Janesville for many years. Marlene was a member of the Rock County Homemakers Club and enjoyed gardening and canning, as well as knitting and needlework. She also was an enthusiastic Bingo and Scrabble player. Marlene and her husband, Bob, loved the outdoors and spent their weekends and summers camping and fishing.

She is survived by her sister, Georgia H. Roe, Whitewater, five nieces and nephews – Pam (Brian) Durham, Springfield, VA, Jeff (Julie) Roe, Whitewater, WI, Marc (Debbie) Roe, Whitewater, WI, Marjorie Roe, South Burlington, VT, and Zachary Dietrich, Janesville, WI – one great nephew, Brandon Roe, Whitewater, WI, and her god-daughter, Denise (Dan) Braukhoff, Janesville, WI. Other survivors include her aunt, Eileen Dorn, Janesville, WI, numerous cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob, (February 1988) and her brother David Dietrich (August 2007).

Visitation will be held at the Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville, WI, from 5 – 7 pm on Monday, June 13. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church , Parker Drive, Janesville on Tuesday, June 14 at 11:00 am. with a luncheon following burial. Pastor Bond Haldeman will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Janesville, WI.
